Windows 8 Offers Native Support for USB 3.0 Specifications

usb 3.0 windows 8Microsoft makes the final preparations for the BUILD Conference event, scheduled for mid September and mainly dedicated to Windows 8.

As usual, the next Windows version is presenting more interest among users, Microsoft repetitively revealing new details about their upcoming Windows 8 and the implementing of native support for USB 3.0 devices on the Windows 8 platform is one of these secrets.

Right now, such USB 3.0 ports are only present on a limited number of PCs and notebooks that are more expensive. However, in 2015 all new PCs will feature USB 3.0 ports, say the estimates from Microsoft.

On paper, the USB 3.0 standard looks great, promising 10-time faster transfer speeds than the current USB 2.0. To enjoy the full benefits of USB 3.0 standard it requires a correct implementation at both hardware and software, through which to be ensured the optimal functioning of the new USB 3.0 devices, but without sacrificing compatibility with the already existing USB 2.0 devices.

In order to achieve this purpose, Microsoft creates, basically from scratch, the software libraries in order to ensure USB 3.0 compatibility in Windows 8, but the components needed for the functioning of the USB 2.0 devices have been left untouched.

The work at USB 3.0 support development began even before the first USB 3.0 devices made their appearance on the market, using virtual devices to emulate the functionality of real equipment. For this, the company created a tool called Microsoft USB Test Tool (Mutt), capable of simulating a wide range of USB 3.0 devices and usage scenarios. Using this program allowed the detection and correction of potential problems long before such devices begin to appear on the market.

More details and maybe a first Beta version of Windows 8 we will get only after the start of the Microsoft BUILD Conference event, in mid September.
