Weekly Tech Wrap Up: New Releases, Social Media and other Tech Stories

Welcome to another installment of stories you may have missed this week. Here in My Tech Team, we strive not only to give you the best online tech support but also to keep you in the know of the latest movers and shakers in the tech world.

In this week’s tech wrap up:

Samsung Series 9 – The tech manufacturer has released its latest slim and sleek notebook running on Windows 7 with an Intel Core i5 processor that aims to rival Apple’s MacBook Air. The new 13.3 lap candy hit the stores Thursday with some mean specs and a slightly higher price range compared to most Windows 7 computers of its kind. Check out this notebook’s details on our Products Review series.

IE 9 Making Waves – the latest Internet Explorer version is making waves with 2.35 million downloads within the first day and counting. The launch was held Monday during the South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.  The IE9 beta testing conducted last year got great reviews and was downloaded over 40 million times. Its latest features include CSS 3 properties, ideal for bloggers and web developers; it also has improved graphics with Windows Color System and Windows Imaging support. The new IE promises smoother, clearer and faster browsing experience and unlike previous versions it is not tied up to any Windows version.

Justin Bieber Engaged – on his Facebook Page that is. According to FanGager’s list of the top 100 most active fan pages, the Biebster’s Facebook Page has about 23 million likes. This is still lower than Lady Gaga’s 30 million fans but when it comes to activity the teen sensation still has the “most engaged” following of 360,000 very active fans. Having a Like on Facebook has proven to be more lucrative than even Twitter and companies are scrambling to get a piece of that pie.

Facebook-Groupon Turf War – The social media giant seems to be gaining more momentum for world domination as far as the web is concerned. The social network stepped into Groupon’s toes as it launched Facebook Deals, a location based discount service last month. Uncannily, it is very much like the online coupon pioneer and the two are now gearing for what can seem to be an ugly turf war.

Tech Equipment Production on Hold – with the triple tragedy that struck the country of Japan, effects can now be seen in the technology sector as several LCD, smartphone and other technology manufacturers have suspended operations. Global leaders such as Sony, Panasonic and Hitachi have announced a halt in production for the following month with the hope that their other locations can pick up the slack.

Angry Fans for Angry Birds – fans of the phenomenal Rovio game is flooding the iTunes Customer Reviews with complaints about the $5 paid Angry Birds app as it is now showing HD advertisements between levels.  The free HD version comes with a golden egg and 15 new levels as well as unwanted advertisements. This is okay for a free app but placing them on the paid version is something customers are not so happy about.
