Microsoft has recently unveiled the vision of a unified ecosystem for PCs, tablets, TVs and Xbox, and in this sense, it seems that the Redmond company is considering abandoning the name “Windows” in favor of a new brand.
Some industry experts say it really would be the most propitious moment for Microsoft to give up Windows and to rename their operating system with a more appealing name. Here’s why:
Too many failures
Do you remember how boring Windows Vista or Windows Me was? Windows Phone 7 did not enjoy the popularity that Microsoft hoped. Even the CEO, Steve Ballmer, admitted that it was far behind iOS and Android. There are too many failures in the history of Windows. Perhaps the time has come for Microsoft to start over again, with a new brand that would not be overshadowed by so many failures.
Minimal fan base
Despite the fact that Windows is the leading operating system, it doesn’t have a loyal fan base like the other platforms – Mac OS X or Linux. According to a recent study, Windows’ market share began to drop, due to customer migration to Macs, smartphones and tablets. Microsoft would prove wise if they restore the operating system and turn it into a platform that people really want to have – instead of the default OS for most PCs.
Windows is getting old
The name of Windows dates back to 1983. We saw everything from 1.01 to 7, from ME to XP. If Microsoft plans to explore new markets by bringing together the Windows, the Windows Phone and the xBox platform, launching a product with a new name would be a natural move.

Yes, Microsoft needs a major overhaul.
On Facebook, we suggested that it’s new name should be Microsoft Sky.
I agree with Sky
