Pew Research Center, an American think tank organization based in Washington, D.C. that provides information on issues, attitudes and trends shaping the U.S. and the world, states that “the social benefits of internet use will far outweigh the negatives over the next decade.” Their reasoning behind this is because email, social networks, and other online tools offer “low friction” opportunities to create, enhance, and rediscover social ties that make a difference in people’s lives.
The Internet has give everyone a sense of closeness. In other words, when you are communicating with someone in China, it feels like you are right next door to them. Pew says, “The Internet lowers traditional communication constraints of cost, geography, and time; and it supports the type of open information sharing that brings people together.”
On the other hand, the Internet allows the rapid spread of news, good and bad. Experts do acknowledge that the Internet, as a tool for communication, can yield both positive and negative effects. But, “a significant majority of technology experts and stakeholders say it improves social relations and will continue to do so through 2020.” You can read the entire report here.

The thing that kills me about sites like facebook is we do not hang around that site for what facebook has to offer we stay for friends and facbook constantly uses your info for advertisment purposes, constantly letting 3rd party companies access way to much information, and constantly changing privacy policies so it is hard for the average consumer to keep up and keep them selves protected. I will say it all falls back on the actual user though, do not post any info that you do not want to share with the world on the internet, that means personal info, phone numbers, or photos.
