Social Media in 2011

social mediaWhether we accept the reality or not, social media is every bit a part of our daily lives. Social networking has gone beyond just getting in touch with friends. Today, every entrepreneur could not even conceive of a marketing strategy that does not involve using Facebook, Twitter or some other internet community. American businesses embraced social networking as it boomed in the past couple of years. Even though a lot have not figured out how everything works yet, social networking is seen as the best platform for business marketing. Some tech and business analysts have predicted social networking trends that will continue to double in 2011.

Privacy concerns

Perhaps one of the biggest concerns with Facebook and other social media sites is the critical issue of privacy. As efficient as social networks are in providing people with the venue to connect to the world, users are also demanding serious privacy policies to protect their online profiles. Flimsy privacy policies are still the top driver why people are shying away from including social sites in their everyday lives. This is something that social networking giants and wannabes will have to address.

Social Search Engines

With a few weeks to go before the end of 2010, Facebook still promises to be the social media giant in the following year, but competition is not far behind. As far as location based services are concerned, Facebook is yet to topple Gowalla and Foursquare. Another competition that seems to be looming is Google releasing its own social media site called Google Me sometime in the next few months. It is geared towards more personalized searches and incorporating the Google Me social network into search engines. Pretty soon Facebook may need to come up with its own search engine just like Bing and Yahoo.

Content Management

With all the information and content being uploaded everyday, content management is looking to be big business in the next few years. Search engine optimized content is the king of the web and it is ever growing.

Social Media and Daily Experiences

You can learn more about a contact and be prepared before placing a call. A simple visit to a person’s wall can let you know about how they are doing or feeling at the moment. It is also a prime resource for future employees and employers for possible candidates and bosses.  Daily digital experiences are enhanced as well as sharing through various social networks is integrated in every aspect of your online experience from your daily workouts through Nike+ apps and the like, health services, online tech support services, and even current events and news that impact your city or country.

Social media and networking will increase its integration to peoples lives and business by becoming more accessible though searches, email and mobile computing. Analysts are saying that 2011 is the year for social media networks and it is something that most people are inclined to agree.
