Samsung’s Slim and Sleek Notebook

Samsung-9-SeriesThe Samsung Series 9- ZX310 is out in stores today. This slim and sleek lap candy first made its appearance in CES 2011. Samsung’s Series 9 Notebook sports a slimmer, more elegant version with a faster processor aimed to rival the Macbook Air.  This 13.3” notebook is very light at about 2.86 pounds and packs an Intel 1.4G Hz Core i5 processor as opposed to MacBook Air which only has a Core 2 Duo at 1.86 GHz.  With this series, Samsung was able to combine elegance with durability and power one would need for more than everyday computing needs.

One of the notable features of this notebook apart from its size is the SuperBright Plus display. This sleek number has an LED backlit screen for a more vivid experience. It can display up to 400 nit brightness, a 100,000:1 ratio and about 16 million color reproductions at 1366×768 screen resolution, for a true to life viewing experience. It has a 160º viewing angle, this means that regardless of your vantage point the image quality is never sacrificed, and perfect for shared viewing of the hottest HD videos. It also has ambient lighting sensors, which means it automatically adjusts to any lighting condition preventing eye strain for those long hours where one has to stare at the screen.  One more thing that will make this laptop a hit is the backlit keyboard that automatically adjusts depending on the light condition. It means no more lost fingers crawling in the dark.

Under the hood, the Intel 1.4G Hz Core i5 processor is not the only thing that’s impressive with this beauty. It also has a 4GB DDR3, with a double data rate memory it has the capacity to transfer twice as much data and with a higher bandwidth. Meaning you can do more work faster so you can have more time watching the latest YouTube videos in HD. It has 128 GB solid state drive, meaning it can store a whole lot of data plus, because there are no moveable parts, it is secured from slips and falls. That is, unless you go all cliff-hanger and drop it from a significant height.

It packs Intel HD GT2 graphics that complements the display with crisp, clean and vibrant colors for high definition video. For audio, users can enjoy the 1.5 watt subwoofer and stereo speakers, yes, a subwoofer on a 13 inch notebook. The lithium polymer battery can last up to 6.5 hours and maybe even more if you follow a few tips to extend your battery life.  Samsung Series 9 also offers several connectivity options with WiMax/WiDi wireless technology, a Bluetooth V3.0, as well as mini-HDMI and USB 3.0 ports.

If you are eager to grab one you have to remember though, that all the powerful specs and sexy packaging come with a cost. It’s about $50 more expensive than a MacBook Air at $1,649.  The pricing is something new for Windows based computers that are comparable to Mac models. For those who would a slightly cheaper version, an 11 inch version with lower but decent specs is scheduled to come out by April of this year.
