Love is one of the strongest emotions driving human beings to do all kinds of things, from waging war to building the Taj Mahal. Finding love can be a bit of a challenge for some, and in this digital age online dating becomes a very appealing option. Online dating sites have been around for a long time and a lot of people actually use them. It is an exciting way to meet new people; it can be a rewarding experience but can also turn into a sour one. Safety and caution should always be practiced when going into online dating. Here are a few tips to help you along.
- Before entering free or paid dating sites make sure that your computer is well protected by updating your anti-virus and firewall programs. Internet Dating sites are full of pop up ads that can sometimes contain malicious software so it is also important to turn your browser’s pop up blocker on.
- Choose a reputable online dating site. Look into the site’s services such as advice and safety guidelines. Some sites simply blind you with provocative pictures but do not care about member’s safety and privacy. Look for site feedback by searching for it in other forums not run by that specific site. Look for customer complaints and how the site handles them. There are many free online dating sites and there are also those who charge a small fee. Do not sign up just because it is free, you could be at risk of signing up on a spam site.
- Before signing up make sure that the site offers what you need like niche dating, quick response time and customer service. Make sure that you read the terms and conditions carefully as well. It would be great if the site has a physical address and licenses as proof of legitimate business.
- Be careful about the information that you give out, there is no reason for you to give your home phone number, address or social security number when going into an online dating site. If you must give a phone number, give out your cellphone number or sign up for a Google phone number that you can use. Remember that while you are putting yourself out there looking for love, there are still unscrupulous people that could take advantage of the situation. For paid dating services, look for other pay options such as PayPal instead of giving out your credit card number.
- When the time comes for you to meet, exercise caution and be street smart. Not everyone is who they claim to be online. Make sure that you are meeting at a public place and that somebody always knows where you are going. Going on a group date is a good idea for first time meetings; this will allow you to get to know the person first before taking things to the next level. Remember, as in real world dating; listen to your gut when it tells you its time to go on another direction.
