Apple takes video calling to a whole new level with iPhone 4’s Facetime app. You can share moments with your family wherever you are with just a touch of a button, via Wi-Fi, iPhone 4 to iPhone 4. Compared to video calling features released in other phones, Apple’s execution is simply amazing. Using Facetime is as easy as pie, no complicated set up needed. All you need to do is take your iPhone out of the box.
The user friendly interface in iPhone makes this enjoyable. You just need to go to your contacts and you will see the Facetime button for the person you want to talk to. If you are already in a conversation with a friend, simply tap on the Facetime icon and your buddy will receive an invitation on his/her iPhone 4 to accept the video call. If Facetime invitation is denied, you will still be able to continue your voice call. It is a seamless process and can be done in landscape or portrait mode.
With one camera on front and one at the back, iPhone 4 is perfect for video calling and has been set to make you look your best on screen. With a tap, you can switch from the back and front camera so you can easily share moments with your loved ones.
Probably one of Facetime’s best features is that it does not eat up cellular airtime or your free minutes. Once you activate the video feature, your voice call use ends and the video call between the two iPhones goes through Apple’s Wi-Fi connection. You will not use any cellular date.
You can easily make a Facetime call without going through your cellphone provider. You can go to their entry on your contacts and tap the Facetime button or you can also look for your friends name in the Recents section and it will be marked as a Facetime call.
During a call, it will look very similar to a video chat; you have three options at the bottom of the screen, End, Mute and Swap Cameras.
The Mute button, found next to the headphone jack, will turn off the sounds but not the video. If you want to the opposite and turn off the video, you can do this by simply pressing the Home button. You will be taken to the Home screen but the voice call will still continue. The person on the other end will you’re last video image and an icon saying “Paused”. You can still resume the call by again tapping on the Facetime icon. The Switch Camera button, lets you switch from front to back camera, so you can show your point of view to the person you’re talking to without flipping your phone. If you are seeing you picture and it’s covering your friends face you can drag it to the side, however it does not completely disappear from view.
If you find that you do not want to use this video feature at all, you can also turn the feature off by going to Settings>Phone> and use the slider to turn Facetime off. Right now, Facetime is only available in iPhone 4 but Apple is working on using the video calling technology in other devices.

What an amazing feature, but too bad AT$T can not keep up with the times, only being able to use this feature over wifi is a deal breaker next to the EVO.
