Inside Look at Acer Aspire One D260

With the academic year looming around the corner, it is just about the time to shop for school supplies. Nowadays, with lectures and research materials available online via university programs and even iTunes having a netbook has become a necessity.  If you are in the market for a new netbook, one that might be worthy of your time and hard earned dollars is the Acer Aspire One D260. It has come a long way from its predecessor, the D250 model and not just in terms of architecture.

The 10 inch, lightweight, slim netbook comes with a large keyboard and a wider touch pad. It has 2GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive, and a Multi-in-one card reader that is compatible with most memory cards. The biggest surprise it offers is, it is powered by Intel Atom N475 processor, faster than what is used in other netbooks in the market. It is in fact the first netbook to use Intel’s Atom N475 CPU; others in the market are still using the N450 version.

It uses Intel GMA 3150 and Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 that supports up to 16.7 million colors and has a mercury-free, TFT display and LED backlight. The Acer D260 comes equipped with a Crystal Eye webcam that is integrated to Acer® Video Conference, VGA output, audio in and out, giving a decent video quality.

This Netbook is also built for connectivity, with WI-FI CERTIFIED™ technology and Ethernet capability. It also comes with a starter Windows 7 operating system, but there have been reports that it will also carry Google Android operating system.

It has a good battery life, using a six-cell battery pack, good for up to eight hours. The combination of the Intel Atom processor and LED display, consumes less energy allowing you to work, stay in touch or play longer. Acer D260 also comes with a MiniGo AC adapter that is considerably lighter than other adapters. It will no longer be a pain carrying one in your bag.

The larger keyboard is very similar to Acer Gateway, flat-topped, large, closely spaced keys. It takes a little getting used to as compare with other netbook keyboards that use an island style keyboard with more space between the keys.

It comes in pink, purple, charcoal, black, or aquamarine with a flake pattern and an appealing matte finish compared to the glossy plastic covering used in the D250. Although some are not so pleased with Acer’s branding and putting the large Aspire One letters right in the middle of the cover.

Despite this netbook being packed with the latest goodies, it is still only a netbook with basic features and usage like web surfing, uploading pictures, word processing, email, and listening to music. Acer has been known to bring good quality computers for reasonable prices and this little baby can very well be one of this years best sellers.
