Google celebrates, on Tuesday, 27th September, 13 years of existence and in order to mark the anniversary, the world’s largest search engine has created a special logo, displayed on the homepage.
The logo contains elements found in any traditional birthday party: a cake with 13 candles placed on a table, and each letter that makes up the word “Google” has a birthday party hat, while packages with gifts and colored balloons round out this festive atmosphere.
Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Serge Brin, two Stanford University students. The business started with an investment of $ 100,000 from one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems.
The search engine is a simple and quick method of finding information over the Internet, with a database of over eight billion websites.
The name Google is actually a pun, started from googol, a neologism from 1938 through which its inventor was appointing a huge number consisting a 1 followed by 100 zeros.
In late 2007, Google became the most powerful brand worldwide, in the same year the search engine was declared the U.S. company with the best reputation, especially because of how they treat their employees. The nearly 8,000 employees benefit from the services of a masseur, pool, gym, cafeteria, and more paid for by the company.
Google’s revenues have increased by 32% in the second quarter of 2011, to over nine billion dollars, while the net profit rose by 35% to $ 2.5 billion.
Today, Google has a fierce battle for supremacy with Yahoo and MSN. Google has already exceeded Altavista and Lycos, and can be accessed in 35 languages.
Recently, Google has expanded the number of services offered by the social network Google+, which, on September 22, gathered over 37 million users.
Google is headquartered in Silicon Valley and has offices in North and South America, Europe and Asia.
