Gulf Coast Oil Spill Spam

oil spillIt seems like every time there is a disaster, there is a criminal waiting to take advantage of it.  The earthquake in Haiti encouraged criminals to take advantage of donations.  The Gulf Coast oil spill is no less prone to criminal activity than anything else.

My Tech Team reminds you to beware of emails and websites that may be created which claim to be a part of a relief effort or some sort of foundation connected to the spill.  Criminals will take advantage of the current state of the economy by purporting to provide job or volunteer opportunities, as well as donations.  So how do you know what to look for?  Read our previous posts on how to detect a scam or fake website, and recognize phishing emails.

Your right every time there is a disaster there is a predator waiting, thats why a lot of times if you can donate your time in a relief effort it can help out a lot more. Of course cash is king so if you do donate your hard earned money make sure you are donating to a well know organization.
