Blogging is a great way to express yourself, widen your social network or put your business out there. Setting up your own blog is easy; there are many blogging platforms that can fit any expertise and budget. Once your site takes off and you are getting regular traffic, you can start monetizing your blog. Blogging for profit is not that difficult, most would require very little effort on your part aside form making regular posts. Here are some easy ways to get you started:

  • Advertising – there are many advertising platforms you can sign up for. Putting ads in specific areas of your blog is like having a passive income. There are three main ways that you can get paid by hosting ads. The PPC or paid per click ads is most popular, these are contextual ads served on your site. For example you have a motherhood blog, then mostly these ads will be mother and child products. Payment will be based on visitor ad clicks and rates will be based on the keywords you have in your post. The more popular your keyword, the higher you get paid. There are CPM (Cost Per Thousand) ads, pay per impression or visit, you and your visitors do not need to do anything, but it generally pays less about $0.10 per thousand impressions. CPA or Cost per Action ads are the highest paying since this requires your visitors to click the ads and register or buy something; this is great for product review sites. Google Adsense, Bidvertiser and AdBrite are some of the most popular ad platforms.
  • Text Links Ads – text links are pretty much like other ads, you can sign up to publish text link ads and get a monthly flat rate earning. Some text links will pay be based on the popularity of your blog and the rankings that you are getting, if your blog gets linked or posted on other sites, you will earn more. TextLinkAds and Linkworth are popular text link providers.
  • In-text advertising – if you would like to maintain the lay out of your blog and do not want to have large advertising banners, you can sign up for in-text advertising. These are the underlined words or links you see in many web pages, for example you have a post about mobile phones, advertisers will use text in your post as advertising links to mobile phone manufacturers. Kontera is one of the more popular in-text ads providers.

The key in blogging for profit is to be consistent with your blog posts and mixing your options. Look for a strategy that works for you and quit those that don’t, you can even mix up your ads. Be careful about putting too much, this can slow down your site and turn people off. Aside from advertising, there are other ways that you can monetize your blog like doing product reviews or paid blog posts. Do not be afraid to explore your options.

I have a google blog for my business but find it kinda cumbersome coming up with topics as not to give away trade secrets, for people to just go DIY.
