Cool Tricks with Internet Explorer 9

Internet Explorer 9 is one of the hottest items to download since its release last week. It promises to give the best and fastest browsing experience with hardware accelerated text and multi-media. It has clean, simple features that allow users to access favorites with just one click, search and go to websites form a single address bar, organize downloads easily and a quick-access to add-ons for a more complete browsing experience. With beta testing that started last year and almost two weeks of the live version, here are some IE9 tricks that you might find useful.

Getting started with IE9 – to enjoy a new browsing experience, first make sure that your computer has all the necessary system requirements, one of which is to have a Windows 7 or Vista operating system. For more information you can go to the Internet Explorer 9 Download page.

Explore with One Box – this used to be the address bar, with One Box users can navigate to a specific website or search for anything. It also has an Auto complete feature that saves time. Although this feature is already available in other browsers, you can also toggle between search engines through a drop down list showing search suggestions and providers.

Pinned Sites – users can take advantage of the Pinned sites feature for faster access to their websites. To pin a site simply click on the websites icon right before the web address or on the tab the site is on and drag it on to the taskbar. This action will create a thumbnail for the site so users can go to it in one click.

New Tab Page – this feature is another functionality that users can take advantage of. It shows 2 rows with about 10 tabs of the most visited sites on the owner’s computer and shows the websites main color and icon. The new tab page also allows the user to go into InPrivate browsing mode and reopen previously closed pages.

Using AeroSnap – probably one of the coolest IE9 on Windows 7 features any multi-tasker will enjoy. This interface allows the user to tear off tabs and view 2 web pages side by side, no ALT+Tab necessary. It can be used for research, watching a video while checking email or comparing prices on different online shopping sites. Tearing off a tab is as simple as clicking on it and dragging it to the edge of the screen and it snaps into place showing you two tabs. Aero Snap can also be used with Word processing programs and other applications.

Customize Address Bar Space – if you find the space too small or you are simply using a smaller screen you can adjust the One Box size by dragging the end to the left or right to make it shorter or longer. For more screen compatibility options, hitting ALT+T will display the Tools menu where the Compatibility settings can help users on different devices view websites properly.

Right Click to Enable – point your cursor on a blank area of the screen and right-click to enable the Favorites Bar, the Command Bar and the classic Status bar at the bottom of the browser.

Bonus Tip: IE9 Hot Keys

Alt – will display the traditional menu bar, after the user clicks the desired option the bar goes away.

Alt+Home – takes users to homepage.

Alt+C – allows users to see favorites, rss feeds and history of visited sites.

Ctrl+J – launch Download Manager.

Ctrl+L – highlight text in the One Box.

Ctrl+D – quickly add sites to your favorites.

Ctrl+B – allows users to organize favorites.
