A Quick Look at Chrome 11 Beta

In the history of Beta launches perhaps one of the best we’ve come across so far is Google’s Chrome 11 Beta browser.  The latest release is available for Windows OS, Mac OS and Linux based computers. Since its release a couple of weeks ago, Google Chrome 11 Beta has been downloaded million times. Chrome 11 continues the tradition on minimal design combined with high-end technology to make the user’s web experience faster, easier and safer. The new Beta version brings two distinct industry firsts; text-to-speech recognition API using HTML5 and 3D CSS, which means web developers can make 3D web pages using CSS.

Talk to your computer – Chrome 11’s text-to-speech voice recognition technology let’s users literally talk to their computers. While this is not a new technology, it’s the first browser to ever launch one. To achieve this Google worked closely with the HTML Speech Incubator Group. With the integration of HTML 5 speech input API, full speech recognition is now possible in this Beta release. Voice recognition allows users to use voice commands to navigate through the web using the browser’s plug in. Another capability of the API is to allow web applications to transcribe voice to text; the user simply clicks on the icon, speaks into a microphone and sees his words typed in front of him. This is something bloggers will surely love. One challenge would be the software’s ability to recognize a range of accents and faster or slower than normal speech.

3D Websites – Web developers can now have the ability to display fancy 3d effects using Chrome 11’s hardware accelerated 3D CSS.  Apart from 3D it also allows users to view sharper websites with more realistic graphics.  3D CSS basically allows developers to put design objects on a three dimensional space, which in effect makes thee object look more real.

Along with these big changes, standard browser features that make Chrome a crowd favorite still exists and enhanced.

Omnibox – this Chrome feature combines the address bar, search bar and history in one field, it also uses the autocomplete function to make suggestions to predict what the user is typing, making browsing experience faster and hassle free.

Tabbed Browsing – Although not a Chrome original, tabbed browsing is still present with ability to pin and bookmark frequently used tabs.

Privacy and Security – Incognito browsing or private mode browsing is still present in the latest version  as well as Chrome’s security feature that alarms the user about possible phishing sites, malware and other malicious software that may be present in web pages to be visited.

Brand New Icon – with the release of the Chrome 11, folks over at Google also shows off its new sleek and polished Chrome 11 desktop icon. Instead of the glossy, embossed look the Beta version sports a matte finished icon, representing a no nonsense hardworking browser that boast of simplicity and  speed.
